1. Confirm the ticket: device, location, rack/U, port, symptom, start time, recent changes.
2. Check power: PSU LEDs, PDU status, cable seating.
3. Check link: port LEDs, transceiver seating, known-good cable/port test.
4. Check physical layer: labeling vs. ticket, bend radius, damaged connectors.
5. Document each test and result as you go, then escalate with facts.
